On Vox: In desperate need of a Styx fyx...

Styx/Ciana

I really, really want to see Styx soon, but I have no money right now.  I don't think I'll be able to go see them until near the end of the year.  It kinda sucks, but what can you do?  I'm not working right now, so that doesn't help.  I'd like to get a job as a secretary, or maybe in retail.  I love books, music, and clothes, so any of those kinds of stores would be ideal for me to work in.  All I know is that I need money, and soon!

I'm lying here in bed watching WORLD'S WILDEST VACATION VIDEOS, waiting for WORLD'S DUMBEST to come on at 8:00. There's nothing like a night of cable television...

I saw a little bit of AMERICA'S GOT TALENT last night. Did anyone see that one guy who was just yowling? In fact I asked my friend Richard if that was a man or a cat yowling, and he goes ,"That's the man that gives the cats lessons." lol

I've gotta tell you, one of the songs that I have downloaded on my phone is Dennis DeYoung's "Goodnight My Love". In Sterling Whitaker's book THE GRAND DELUSION, he said that song could be taken as both a goodbye and an apology to Styx, and anyone who knows the band's history could certainly imagine that it is (whether that was Dennis's intended meaning or not is for someone else to answer). But it's a gorgeous song, as most of them are.

Well, I'll end this now. It's fifteen minutes until my show comes on. I'll talk to y'all later!

I know it's been forever since I've posted here... sorry about that!  I got fed up with MySpace (again).  I kept getting all kinds of popups (for some reason, my popup blocker doesn't work), and then my computer would freeze up.  (Maybe it wasn't My

Merry Christmas to all!

Styx/Ciana
Unless you don't do Christmas, in which case happy whatever. I had a good day today, although none of my family was around. We're all scattered to the winds pretty much... my youngest brother was finally transferred to Africa, my oldest sister-in-law was sick, and my brother Pat and his family are still in Korea. Kinda sucks. It was a very quiet day here.

Hope all of y'all had a nice day. [info]kaydee23, is your snail-mail address still the same? I was meaning to send you a Christmas card, but I didn't know if I have the correct address. Let me know!

Talk to everyone later!

New website...

Styx/Ciana

I have a new website now:  www.cianadouglas.com. The forums are at www.cianadouglas.com/forum, if anyone is interested.  Right now there are only two members (myself and a friend named Styxie).  Not really surprising, because my site designer had to move it to a new host, set up new forums, etc., and that took two and a half weeks.  But I think it's gonna stay up this time, and I hope a lot of people join.  It's not just a Styx forum, either... believe it or not, I actually do have other interests. :-P

So if anyone of y'all have time or the inclination, maybe you could mosey on over there and check it out.  (Unfortunately... well, fortunately for me, *g*... you have to register in order to post, but you can talk about anything and everything, once you do!)

I know the site is on Google... I checked it out myself, so it should be easy to find.  I just hope people hear about it and decide to check it out.

Well, that's all I have to say right now.  I've been hanging out on MySpace a lot, and blogging on my WordPress blog (which has a link to it on my website).  I'm not sure if I want to delete my LJ account and just confine all my blogging to WP.  It's the same with MySpace... I'm afraid to leave because my friends might not follow me to my website, but if I stay, they definitely won't.  So what would y'all do?  Any advice would be appreciated...

Ciao, y'all...

~ Ciana

Thanks, Jen... *grumble* :)

Blame [info]reoracer for this one...

Rules of the Game:
A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs & replace any question that they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.

B) Tag 8 people to do this quiz & those who are tagged cannot refuse. These people must state who they were tagged by & cannot tag the person whom they were tagged by. Continue this game by sending it to other people.

1. How has LJ changed your life?
I met Jen here!  We're both Styx fans, so that brought us together.  And I've met lots of other folks here, too.

2. What do you do before bedtime?
Get my Styx fyx with videos or CDs.  Take a bath, drink some Arizona iced tea (yeah, good stuff to help you fall asleep, huh?).

3. Is there any particular song you listen to, to jump-start your day?
Anything rockers by Styx ("Miss America", "Rockin' the Paradise" or "Renegade" from Return to Paradise, "Midnight Ride" from Equinox, or "Shooz" from Crystal Ball.

4. Are you happy with your career? And if you don't have one or are not happy, what is your dream job?
I' m not working right now, but I'd love to work at a music or a bookstore!  I love music and I love to read, so that would be awesome.  (Employee discounts, you know... *g*

5. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a total extrovert!

6. Do you believe in fate/destiny? Soul mates?
Yup

7. Do you trust easily?
 Too easily at times...

8. The last song you listened to?
"Do Things My Way" by Styx (Cyclorama)

9.  What never fails to make you smile?
Lemme get back to you on that...

10.  The last time you dressed fancy, what did you wear and why did you dress fancy?
I usually don't dress up.  What's "fancy"?  I guess when I went to a banquet for a friend of mine's promotion at work.

11.  Is being tagged fun?
Eh... I can deal.

12.  Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I really want a good job and a place of my own...

13. Does it annoy you when you keep seeing the same questions in surveys?
LOL, yeah. I mean, how many times do you need to hear the same answer? One hundred?

14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
Another unique personality, like me...

15. Would you rather be intelligent but have the weight of the world on your shoulders or ignorant and happy?
I think I'd prefer ignorant and happy.  I am intelligent, and have had a lot of unhappiness in life, so why not try the other way?

16. How many children do you want to have, if any?
I love babies, but I can't have any. :(

17.  What would you like to name your children, if you have any?
Charles Thomas Todd and James Lawrence Richard (Now how did I come up with those names?? ;)

18.  If you fall in love with two people simultaneously, who would you pick?
There's only one right now!

19.  What's your worst habit?
I talk too much! :)

20.  If you could be any age, what age would you wish to be?
Uh...

Tagging any eight people who feel like filling this out... *g*

Styx/Ciana
Hello from Indiana!  I got here safe and sound on Wednesday around `12:45 p.m.  That was a 26 hours!  (I get to do it again next week... fun!)

Jen and I have been doing a lot of running around the past couple of days... we visited Billy Sunday's  museum today.  (He was a famous preacher back in the 30s.)   Then we went by the flower and Biblical gardens here in town and I took a bunch of pix.  (Before all this, we went to Winona Lake, which is basically the same  place as Warsaw but more of a resort place -- lots of rich people live there..)  Anyway, we went down a nature trail, so I got some    good pics of that too. We're at the library r ight now, but we'll be on our way home soon.  Tomorrow we'll go see Jen's parents and thencome back to   Wabash for the concert.

I guess that's all for    right now.  I'll talk to y'all when I get back home!.

I've been coming back and trying to post here for awhile, and my 'puter's been really pissy for some reason.

I'm leaving for Indiana on Tuesday and will be back on the 29th.  I'll be posting here, probably daily, between those two dates.  I plan on taking lots of pix, which I will upload and post (some of them at least) here.  I won't be able to post to my MySpace or Coffee Fool blogs while I'm away, so at least I have this outlet.  *g*

I'll talk to you later!

I can't get on MySpace right now, so I can't check my messages or anything.  I'm hoping Tommy will respond to the message I sent him on the 27th, but he hasn't been online since the 26th (as of last night, anyway).  It was a fairly long message (a little more than my usual "I love you, I love Styx, blah, blah").  I hope he's fairly amused by it.  It was just kind of a silly little thing.

It looks like I'll be pretty busy during my vacation... I may have to extend my stay just to fit everything in! *g*  Jen, we may have to drive back over to Wabash on Sunday, so I can pick up a paper and read the concert review.  (Unless you know of another place we can get that paper.)

As of right now, I have $80 in savings, but it will be more than $200 by the end of the month.  I'm planning to put back at least $300 in April, and a couple of hundred in May.  So I'll definitely have spending money.  I'm hoping my brother Pat will send me some birthday money before I leave, so I'll have even more.

Well, I've gotta go right now.  I'll try to post more later, since this is the only place I can post anything right now.  Talk to y'all later!

~ Ciana

I'm happy!!!

I GOT MY TICKET TODAY!!!!  I'M SO EXCITED!!!  CAN'T WAIT TO LEAVE!!!!

I'll be gone for a week... from the 21st through the 28th.  I need to go bounce off the walls now...

*Sigh*

Styx/Ciana
Okay, May so needs to get here!  My mind is already in Indiana.  It's only March! :(  I have a little over two months to wait...

Someone give me something to take my mind off this concert, pwetty pweez! lol

Hello, all!

Styx/Ciana
I'm going to Ticketmaster tomorrow and see if I can get my ticket to the Styx show.  Naturally, I want a seat near the front (preferably right in front of Tommy), but I don't know if I'll get one.  If I can't, I'll get one of the cheap seats in the second balcony ($49.50, I believe Jen said).  Just wish me luck that I'll get a really good seat!

In other news, Tommy sent me two messages yesterday from the Shaw/Blades Influence page, and one today.  :)  Naturally, I'm bouncing off the walls.  I guess he figures I'm pretty harmless after all and that I'm not going to start stalking him just because he's nice to me. :)

Well, I guess that's all for right now.  I'll talk to y'all later!

Can't wait til the end of the month!

Styx/Ciana
On February 29th, I'm going to Ticketmaster and get a ticket to the Styx show in Wabash, IN, on May 24th!  WOOHOO!!!  I'm hoping they still have some of the $100 tickets left... I want as close to the front as I can get on Tommy's side.

I'll be staying with Jen when I go up there... we need to talk and see how long she and John can stand having me around!  lol  Jen and I can talk forever about not only Styx, but other bands, books, T.V., etc., and drive John crazy. :)

I so cannot wait!!!

How I met Styx (a fanfic in three parts)

Disclaimer: Okay, as most of you know, I’ve never actually met anyone in the band. I’ve talked to a couple of the guys (Lawrence and Todd) on the phone, but that’s it. This is just a story relating my fantasies of meeting them and how such a meeting might go.

I took some of the songs I mention in this part from my friend Jen’s LiveJournal. (She went to three shows last year, took down the setlists, and I just mixed them up. Thanks for being such a fantastic recorder, Sis! J ) Other songs are ones I just love and hope they still do… and if they don’t, they need to! J

PART 2: THE SHOW

There was a burst of applause, cheers, screams, etc. as the a voice boomed over the speakers, "Billy Bob’s Texas is proud to present STYX!" [Note: It’s been awhile since I’ve been to BB’s, so I’m not sure if they announce the bands or not, but hey, it’s my fantasy, so I say they do! *g*] The guys came out on stage, waving to the crowd, and took their places behind their microphones. They opened up with my favorite song from Paradise Theatre, "Rockin’ the Paradise" (which I don’t believe they’ve played in awhile) before going into "Blue Collar Man", and the crowd was singing and clapping along. Then they went into "The Grand Illusion", which is one of my favorites off The Grand Illusion album. Then came my very favorite song from Equinox, "Lorelei", which I have always thought that JY does a better job on than Dennis ever did. (Please let me live! I love Dennis, but I just like hearing JY sing this song. I just think it suits him, or maybe his vocal style suits it…) I sang along with all of it – since Dennis did the vocal on it originally, it’s easy for me to sing. I discovered years ago that I suck at singing most of JY’s stuff, except on the choruses. JY smiled and winked at me during the song, and I pretended to swoon. "One With Everything" was next, which of course they played on their matching seafoam green Fenders, and "Lady". I must admit that I’ve never liked that song much, even with Lawrence doing the vocal, but this night it sounded wonderful. I don’t know what the difference was, but it was great. "Too Much Time on My Hands" is another one of my faves off of Paradise Theatre, and even though Tommy blew some lyrics (he recovered well), I enjoyed singing it. One of the highlights of my night… hell, maybe of my entire life! … came as the guys came downstage, tearing through the outro. I let out a yell, then screamed at the top of my lungs, "I LOVE YOU, TOMMY!" lol Unfortunately, he chose that moment to look down at his guitar, but either JY is an accomplished lip reader, or he just knew what I said, because he grinned and winked at me before nudging Tommy with his elbow. Tommy glanced up, JY nodded in my direction, and Tommy looked at me with those heavenly blue eyes and SMILED AND WINKED!!! (And then had to interrupt the concert while someone fetched a mop and a bucket… All right, so I made that up. But don’t be surprised if it does happen one of these days! Lol)

Lawrence played a little bit of Beethoven before launching into "I Am the Walrus" (not really big on the Beatles here, so I mainly just watched the guys play their instruments). Then Tommy said, "You know, even if I’d had a crystal ball back in 1975, I don’t know if I would have believed what my life would have turned out like. I just figured I’d be playing in a bowling alley for the rest of my life. When I got the call to go up to Chicago and audition for Styx, I had no idea what an incredible ride this would be. All I can say is, if you’re gonna dream, dream big!" The fans roared as Tommy began to play the intro to "Crystal Ball". I was singing, and one of the techs came offstage with a cordless microphone in hand. Nothing could have shocked me more than having it stuck in my face and being encouraged – by Tommy – to sing a bit! J He stepped back from his microphone and sang the words – although since no one could hear them, it was more like he was mouthing them – to help me along. Sigh Definitely one of the highlights of my night! Then they did "Suite Madame Blue"… thank goodness a friend of mine loaned me his copy of Equinox so I could learn how to sing it, lol. Although I have heard the live version the guys did on the Return to Paradise tour, so that was also helpful.

The guys did an acoustic set that was simply amazing. "Man in the Wilderness", "Midnight Ride" (I love that song! When I was young, my mom wouldn’t let me listen to it because it’s JY singing about having a one-night stand with a fan, lol.), and a few covers – Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Zeppelin, and others.

Tommy introduced Chuck, "Our original bass player, Chuck Panozzo, came all the way from Florida to perform with us tonight! Y’all give him a hand!" We did, of course, as he came out and joined the guys on "Fooling Yourself", which I was glad to see. He wasn’t at the concert at the Smirnoff back in September, so I haven’t gotten to see or hear him since the Styx/CYO concert in Cleveland back in 2006… and that was only on DVD. On the bridge of the song, Lawrence did his schtick of turning his back to his keyboard and playing, then turning sideways and playing without looking. Isn’t he crazy? But of course, that’s partly why we love him, isn’t it? Next was my favorite JY song, "Miss America", one of the few songs I didn’t sing the verses on, but did the choruses. (I’ve always been sort of amused by JY’s heavy metal, scream-at-the-top-of-his-lungs style. I love it! At least he screams on key, lol…) The next song that they played was "I Don’t Need No Doctor", and Lawrence came to the front of the stage and sang to me! (The line "all I need is your sweet love", in point of fact.) "Snowblind" from Paradise Theatre was next, followed by "Half Penny, Two Penny" from the same album. (Gotta love Todd’s drum solo on the bridge of that one!) Finally came the song I’d been waiting all night to hear – "Come Sail Away". The same tech who’d come to me before came back and helped me up onstage, where he handed me a microphone. I walked over to Lawrence’s keyboard and we chatted a bit, then he introduced me, "Here’s a very special fan, who’s been a Styx fan since the album this next song is from was released back in 1977. From The Grand Illusion, "Come Sail Away", with lead vocals sung by Ciana Douglas!" The crowd applauded as he started the intro, and he mouthed the lyrics as I sang. (I actually did much better than I thought I would… I figured I’d be so nervous, I’d forget most of the lyrics, or at least mix them up, but I didn’t!) After the second verse, when the other guys came in with the guitars and drums, Lawrence took my hand and led me out to center stage where we basically turned the rest of the song into a duet. I was so excited to actually be on the same stage with Styx! After the song was done, Lawrence led the applause, and Tommy came up and handed me the guitar pick he’d been using. I went back to my seat as the guys left the stage to take a break, and the rest of the fans went to take care of some business (you know, getting drinks, answering the call of nature, etc.) Someone brought me a margarita and complimented me on my singing. (I also sounded better than I thought I would… everyone apparently understood every lyric I sang!)

Fifteen minutes later, the guys came back out for their encore – "Everything All the Time" and "Renegade" (Chuck came out again), and Tommy introduced the band members as Lawrence took the pictures of them to give to the fans. "I can’t believe the show is over! Did everyone have a good time tonight?" "YEAH!" "Let me hear you say ‘Yeah’!" "YEAH!" "Wow, we could do this all night long, then get up in the morning and do it again!" Crowd cheers "The thing is, we have a gig tomorrow night!" Crowd boos, lol "I’ll tell you what though… y’all just get on the bus, and we’ll take you with us!" Crowd goes berserk Then he launches into the song that no Styx fan ever wants to hear, "We Gotta Go", and then the reprise of "Renegade". All in all, one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!
